Raw Materials: The Path to Sustainability
In the first of these 60-minute discussions, we’ll look at some of the ways producers are working to ensure all raw materials, from cane and grain to yeast, wood and botanicals, are sourced ethically, considerately and sustainably. We’ll explore some of the key areas that contribute to more sustainable sourcing practices, such as traceability, ethical collaborations with suppliers, repurposing and recycling and modern farming practices. Becky Paskin, Founder of OurWhisky Foundation and award-winning spirits communicator, will be hosting the session and joined by speakers from brands such as The Oxford Artisan Distillery, Arbikie Distillery, Two Drifters Rum and Starward Whisky.
Packaging: The Path to Sustainability
The second instalment in our ‘Path to Sustainability’ series focuses on the area of spirits production that arguably most impacts the end consumer: packaging. Beyond protecting the liquid, the packaging is a visual and tangible touchpoint in the whisky-buying experience. Producers have been experimenting with all manner of materials to present their liquid in the never-ending quest to minimise our environmental impact while delivering a quality experience for the consumer. In this session, we’ll be diving deep into the world of sustainable packaging, covering everything from gift boxes and tins to outer DTC packaging, even the bottles and closures themselves. We’ll be exploring best practices, consumer trends around gifting and recycling and other truly innovative solutions. Becky Paskin, Founder of OurWhisky Foundation and award-winning spirits communicator, will be hosting the session, and joined by speakers from brands such as Woven Whisky, EcoSpirits and Diageo.
People & Culture: The Path to Sustainability
In our final instalment, we look at one of the most underrated ways to make your business more sustainable: investing in people. Our panellists will examine how the creation of a healthy workplace culture can contribute to job satisfaction and staff retention. We’ll discuss the efficacy of various employee sustainability policies, such as flexible working, holidays, health and well-being packages, volunteering opportunities, professional development and fair hiring practices. We’ll also explore how to engage employees to support your business’s sustainability goals through empowerment and examination of their own behaviours.
